Gobernanza Forense Ciudadana A.C

Gobernanza Forense Ciudadana is a Mexican non-for profit civil society organization (CSO). Through our work we foster cultural change towards a culture of legality in Mexico. We strive to strengthen the capacities of government officials, policy makers and lay citizens to better comprehend forensic practices in order to improve the performance of the justice system. Ultimately we believe that any effective, rights based system of democratic governance, limited and responsive government is founded on the effective limitation of power by citizens and institutions. Arbitrariness is unacceptable in a justice system that upholds democratic values as it epitomizes the discretionary powers that democratic systems attempt to eliminate. In the context of judicial reform and extreme violence in Mexico we see the opportunity to commence the uprooting the culture of arbitrariness in favor of a culture of rights, evidence and due process. Forensic practices offer the possibility to understand the justice system as a process of truth seeking which might help the nation overcome the terrors of normalized violence and help individuals find their missing and disappeared ones in this so called war on drugs.
